I recently joined a LJ Community called [info]the_polaroids, which was a featured group on the Home page for a while (maybe it still is) and is primarily for people who have old instant film pictures and want to share them, or who still use their polaroid system for instant pictures and want to share them.

Some of these pictures are really awesome, and I love looking at them. There are a surprising number of posts each day from people who scan their polaroids. It made me want an old instant film system in a vague sort of way.

Then I had a thought.

Wouldn't it be neat to have an instant camera at the wedding for people to use? Anyone could pick it up and take a shot or two and put it back for someone else. We all love taking instant pictures, right? Then people would put their freshly developed photo on the table, or pinned to a board or something, for everyone to see, and we'd make a special album of them after the wedding. I could scan them and post them on Flickr for people to see and print on their own when we get back from the honeymoon.

So, I poked around Ebay and other sites looking for the best deal on new cameras and film, and for about 130 bucks I have a brand new in package Polaroid 600 camera on its way, plus 4 packs of 10 color exposures and 2 packs of black and white film (another 20 exposures). 60 shots would be a decent amount for one event (the pre-ception, or the wedding/shipboard reception), but not for everything we're doing that weekend.

If people were feeling generous, I wouldn't mind a gift of more film for use at the wedding. :) Let me know if you're feeling generous, and I'll point you towards the sites with the best value deals on film :)

I'm excited about this concept and think it will make for fun pictures. Of course, with Polaroid planning to cancel production on most of their instant film, in the long run this could really suck. But for now, fun times!

I've always liked Poloroids, and it is something I've thought about doing too. Too bad they're cancelling production on Poloroid film.

Send me linkies! evilbutcute at gmail, I think I wanna buy some!

Actually, I think I may have a poloroid lying around but without film... Hmm... Will have to do some looking around in my clutter.
